RE:

Hello all! I’m an employee at an aerospace machine shop in the Midwest. Since we are a small business, some of us must wear several hats. I manage the computer network, phone system, and physical plant mechanical systems. Our Norstar Meridian Modular system with Star Talk Flash has been very little trouble. We have 4 Telco lines, 15 extensions using 3 digit extension or set ID numbers. My problem is the company who installed this system is no longer around and the only people that work on these systems charges a very high minimum charge to just come out here. Here is my problem: I have an employee who has been using a M7208 phone and she now is moving to the front office. We need to put her on a M7310 phone that had been assigned to another employee. I know how to change the name on the phone, but can’t figure out how to make her extension the same as her old phone. The SET RELOCATION option is turned on, but I can’t remember how to get to the menus where that is done. Can anyone help me reprogram this one phone? I am not in the phone business so go easy with the acronyms and tech talk. If you want to reply privately, use bstethem at attco dot com for my email address.

Thanks in advance

Bryan

NIC may be faulty????

if you have set relocation turned on then you simply need to physically swap the phones ... then turn set relocation off and give her the phone that she needs to have. this will swap her information to the new location and then you can give her the M7310. what other programming are you trying to do to the phone?

Thanks for the reply PhoneGurl.

With set relocation turned on, as it is now, when I move phones the set ID (extention) number and name stays with the phone. What I'm trying to do is physically move this emplyee to a new location and transfer her name and extension number to a M7310 that is already programmed to do everything I need it to do. There are many features in this M7310 that she will need now that are not programmed in her M7208.

In the past when an employee was replaced, it was a simple matter of changing the name on the phone. But this time, I need the extension number changed as well as this is not a new employee, just moved to a different location and assuming new duties and a phone with more features and buttons and a busy lamp field.

If I hit FEATURE * 0 and then the Intercom button on the M7310, I see 232 Carrie. I can change the name and get 232 Helen. What I need is 224 Helen. Helen has been here many years and has always been 224 and needs to stay 224 on this other phone.

I can also see that this phone is on for example port 105. Maybe I need to change port 105 to 224? somehow.

Thanks for your efforts.

i understand what you're trying to do...set relocation will do what you need by following my instructions above....b/c when you turn the set relocation off the extension of Helen will stay where you need it to and then you can give her the M7310 that you have programmed for her. follow my instructions step-by-step and i promise you that it will work for what you want:

Turn Set Relocation ON
Swap the phones of the people trading places.
Turn Set Relocation OFF (you have now moved her extension # to this port)
Give her the M7310 that you want her to have....you may have to reprogram some of the buttons.

if you don't want to do it this way then you can just swap the ports on the block.

PhoneGurl,
You were right. I had to first move her original phone to her new location with the phone relocation feature turned on. Then I had to turn off the relocation feature and plug in her new phone. I now have her name and extension number in the M7310. But I do have to re-program many of the features\buttons that did not transfer over. But at least I know how to do that part.......I hope!!!!

I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Rest assured if I get something major, I'll call the experts, but this was not worth the $125.00 minimum site charge.

I managed to get the rest of the buttons programmed and we're up and running. Again, thanks for your help. I will keep this website handy for future problems. Most of these "technical" BBs don't like dealing with people who are not in the business. It is refreshing that you would share your experience and help out a newbie.

I have a NT5B01 System with m7208 Phones. I understand set relocation but don't know where to go to do this on my system. I can get into the configuration but can't locate the set relocation setting.
