Scenario: After hours, only one call at a time will get answered by the startalk auto attendant

Facts:
I have lines 021 - 028 on ports 701 - 708, hooked to my T1
I have Target Line 081 set for rec'd digits of 531. This is our 800 number.
I have Target Line 081's prime set to be 222 (receptionist)

Here is what I have tracked this down to:
Only one call at a time actually comes in (according to the receptionist's display) on line 081. It will look like this:

081 to Prime
and when she picks up, the display says 081

BUT, then other calls come in like this:

024 --> 081
and when she picks these up, the display says 024

This seems to be the cause of my auto attendant not picking up any more than one call at a time after hours. It seems that only one call at a time is getting fully "grabbed" by the Target line. Any other calls that come in at the same time get forwarded to 222 correctly, but they aren't being seen by the auto-attendant as being line 081 (my target line), so the AA isn't answering them.

Is it true that a Target line can only truly grab one incoming call at a time?

Thanks,

PB

Ringing Phones?

How are your line tables setup on the StartTalk?

F983, enter your password, OK.
Click Tables, enter table 1, then show lines.
Do you have more than one line assigned to be answered?

I'm with you HCJes...Paul, have you specified for the AA to answer all of your lines or just L-081? What type of phone system is this and what is the software level?

Re: RE:

Good questions guys. I only have AA answering line 081.

This is because 4 different 800 numbers (including a fax number) come into my T1 and so I only want the AA to answer 081.

I have messed around with setting the AA to answer lines 021-028 which does of course solve the problem of AA not answering. However, it means that AA answers my fax numbers and all other calls coming into 021-028 which is not good.

My thinking is that a big purpose of target lines is to have a shared pool of incoming lines that can be used for different things.

I am running an 8x24 with DR5

Thanks!

PB

How is your Night Service setup. On Norstar I normall add the StarTalk DN to pickup group and set my night service to goto that pickup group. That way your Startalk will answer L081 during the day, however, answer all your calls during the night.

I'm not sure I follow. To clarify my scenario, I don't want startalk to answer any incoming calls during the day for L081. During business hours, I have AA set to N for answer lines.

When the receptionist leaves, I have her use F982 to change us to non-business, and have her set the AA to Y for answer lines.

I do use night service to route a local line out to the shop after hours, but I have never considered using it to be involved with the AA using a pickup group. I will look into that.

Thanks!

sounds like you are really going about all of this the hardest way possible. i would recommend leaving L-081 answered by AA at all times after 4 rings and never touching Feature982 and then just program your times of business in the greeting table. once you've done that you could build a night service for the receptionist to turn on (by the push of ONE button) when she leaves that would have the AA answer immediately.

Welcome to PRE MICS 4.0 with DID... Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about this. You are correct in your programming. Unfortunately all DR5, MICS T1R1~3.0 software did not really know how to handle these calls.

Now you say you have DR5. Are you sure it's not DR5.1??

Hmm, OK, "hardest way possible" seems a little strong...my use of the target line seems to fit the manual's description of what it is for...but OK, I appreciate the feedback.

Per policy, AA is not to answer the phone during business hours. I will examine tying the AA into the night service.

Thanks,

PB

I don't know. The system version says "30MUL02 DR5" if that helps.

So it sounds like you are verifying for me that Target lines only can fully "grab" one call at a time? The pity is that the first call is handled beautifully. It's only the additional concurrent calls that don't get answered.

Thanks a lot for your help,

PB
