Cable Installation Procedures

Hi All,

Tomorrow I'm doing a survey of a Norstar (not sure what type) in one of our offsite warehouses.

Currenly a T1 runs to the system, but there are only (3) stations. Use to be a lot of stations, but one group moved out.

My mission - to find out if the T1 can be removed and replaced with (3) centrex lines..

What card would I need to look for to support Analog trunks?

Thanks,
Chas2002

Chas, you will need an LS/DS if you just want analog lines, or a CI if you want CLID. Basic if you are going in with plexar/centrex you just need to go to system programming and change the link timing to match your centrex hook flash. Post back if more help needed.

Thanks Ram -

I'll take a digital picture. I'm gonna need all the help I can get - the last Norstar I worked on was a DR 5? (is that right) back in 1995..

Do you know of or have you heard from Modley1 on the board?

We are doing an "about us" file and Modley1 was our 'Norstar' rep and moderator. Would you be willing to fill in....We(I) haven't heard from him in quite a while...

PM me
or
charlescarter@pbxinfo.com

And I'll be in touch with all kinds of questions about this Norstar system....

Thanks,
Chas2002

RAM - Here are the digital pictures of the system.

Currenlty there is a Mega-link from the CO to the system. We would like to remove that and replace it with regular analog lines. Looking at the system, cards installed, etc. - What would I need to get this up and running?

Thanks,
Chas2002

Chas, I am at Dallas at Global Knowledge. Looking at your pics (limited computer access) it looks like a digital card in slot 1. I can't tell for sure, but do you also have a trunk mod? Replace the digital card with LS/DS cards and the same in the trunk mod if it is also a digital. In hardware settings, change from t1 to loop. What is a mega-link? Is it a t1 or pri. I will check back during breaks.

Chas, what is pic number 4? Have you been onsite to do this yet? How many analog lines are you wanting to install? Will check back during first break.

RAM -

Pic 4 is the CO block.

I haven't worked on a Norstar in a long time and I don't have any NTP's for the system.

I will need to install (4) analog lines with a 1 to 1 match (CO 1 = Line 1, etc), and an independent fax number.

Pic 5 shows the main housing:
1. Norstar Plus ICS
2. NT7B72FK - 0x32 T1 SFTWRE
3. NTB74GA - T1 PRI Card

I guess I will need to pull that T1 Card and replace it with a Analog card. Do I have to do anything with Item 2?

Thanks,
Chas2002

Since you have a spare slot (marked slot 3 on the KSU), all you need to do is install one LS/DS or CLID card (CLID will support caller-id). Your lines will be from Line025~Line028. You can leave the T-1 card installed and not have to worry about it. Since your software is MICS 3.0, the existing T-1 card will not support PRI (just an FYI software must be at 4.0 or higher to support PRI).

Once installed, program the lines to Appear&Ring accordingly. You can change the line names to Line 1, Line 2, etc. to facilitate the Line 1 > CO 1 requirement. Since this system uses "soft programming" it doesn't matter where the lines physically terminate into the system as they can be programmed to any line button on any amount of phones.

Your termination points on the System C.O. cable (3rd amphenol on KSU) will be as follows:

Cable Pair / Physical Line / System Port
Red-Brown / Line025 / 225
Red-Slate / Line026 / 226
Black-Green / Line027 / 227
Black-Brown / Line028 / 228

Since there more than likely was not a card previously installed in this slot, it should default to LOOP. If your lines don't work, check the HARDWARE configuration and insure Module 2, Card 2 is set for LOOP.

The above information should get you going on your way. I will check back in a couple of hours to see if you have any further questions.
