Scenario: MICS w/ 6.1XC w/ (2) enabled PRI's
Question: If the primary PRI was to fail (from the TELCO end) would the secondary PRI automatically take over? In other words, the users currently dial "9" to get an outside line, but if the Primary PRI were to fail would they still be able to dial out this way? I've heard that this is true but I think that there is something in programming that needs to be "turned on" or set up to make this work. Can anyone offer any kind of input on this?

We have 2 pri's in our N* at the office, but have never disc one to see if the other takes over. Don't think so, cause in prog you set your b channel to ascending or descending. Try it and see!!!

AS LONG AS THE 2 T'S ARE IN THE SAME LINE POOL THE NORSTAR WILL DISABLE THE T AND ROUTE EVERYTHING OVER THE OTHER T

 Thanks guys! If in the event this ever happens I'll post back and let you know if it works this way or not. I'll be sure to check the line pool access also. Have a great day!

You have also to tell the Telco that the 2nd PRI to set it up as extended from the first one. But I have a problem understanding how one can work without the other one that has the D channel. If the one with the D channel goes down...Your down. Right?

Check to see if you have a D channel set on each T1. If not you might want have it changed on the PBX and corrdinate with telco.

If it is not set with a seperate D channel on each T, the controlling circuit will take both T1's down if it ever has issues.

I've seen CO's provide PRI's with dedicated D-chnls for each T1, 2 PRI's with 1 D-chnl, or 2 PRI's with one Primary D-chnl and 1 Backup D-chnl. They all work fine PBX's, but I've never tried to program one on a Norstar. Has anyone done this befoe?

RE:

Ys, many times. They must be seperate D channels. You can program them as the same (ex: PRI-A) pool group.
