I have a customer with an 8x24 w/DR5. They have a valcom paging system.

I went to site today and was asked to look at a horn that wasn't working. I toned the cable out and after i did, all the paging was knocked out. I can put a toner on the cable in front of the system and you hear tones over all speaker and horns. Although when i put the correct pairs on the correct port, I get nothing. I have a phone in the closet and I can hear the system click when the page feature is activated, still nothing.

The internal paging works, as they are two different functions..

Any thoughts? Did I short out the page port? Is it able to be replaced if I have? or is the whole KSU going to have to be replaced?

TIA.

Clip on the page port with your butt set, dial F62 and see what you hear. A toner on the page port should not have killed it!!!

Port is blown!! That is the first I have heard of a toner destroying a page port. I have done this several times and nothing has happened. If you have a spare line port with a Valcom page control, why not put the paging on it? The only thing you will lose is the capability to page sets and spkrs at the same time.

Ramjet,

please explain. I had someone mention that to me but they were very brief. I would rather not replace the whole system and the company never uses sets and speakers at the same time.

Thanks for the help....

If you use a control unit for the paging, such as Vacom's V-2001, you can set a switch on it to provide battery to a line port just as if it was connected to a line. Prog this line into a separate pool and give it an access code. Punch the tip and ring input to the page controller down on the line and when you dial the pool code, shazaam, you get paging. The controller also will have a contact closure for connection to the Aux Ring on the KSU, and a music input to provide music over the paging system. When you dial the pool code, the music will cut off allowing the page to come thru.

(I know all parts are good except the page port)

I moved the T/R to a good line port. I assigned the line to a pool that is not being used. I Gave it an access code that is not being used. STILL I GET NOTHING!

The system is looking for more digits. Once it doesn't receive those digits it times me out. Any other tips?

Remember, look above, you must have a page control unit such as a Valcom V-2001. AND, if you put a tone to the T&R input to the horns, you do get tone, RIGHT????
