Voicemail External Access

I'm running a BCM 50 6.0.2.05.237 and CallPilot 43.01.00.22

I'm trying to access voicemail externally, when a someone dials their number from outside and gets the voicemail greeting they press * and are disconnected. I've also tried pressing * * at the autoattendent and receive the same exiting the system message and are disconnected. I know I'm missing something.

I found this in the forums so I know I'm on the correct track.

"tell the users to press " * * " as soon as they hear that greeting, they will be prompted for mbox and password, just like when they call their own mailboxes." - We never get prompted. just "exiting the system, goodbye"

In the Call Pilot system configuration menu, make sure enable external initialization is checked.

Of course, this make the Call Pilot more vulnerable to being hacked.

Hi there. You should only need to enable external initialisation if you want to perform the first setup on a mailbox from outside the system.

Here in the UK there is a slight error on the voicemail documentation which says you need to dial ** to access the voicemail remotely, I couldn't tell you if this is also the case in the US.

To access voicemail remotely you need to do the following:

1. Dial into the system and get answered by Call Pilot, either mailbox or auto-attendant
2. Diall 88, you will be prompted for a mailbox number and password
3. Dial your mailbox number, password, then press # (eg 221 1234 #)

After that you should be into your mailbox from outside, or at least, this is how we do it in EMEA.

Reboot is correct here, if you are using the call pilot interface and not the Norstar interface.

With the Norstar interface you will dial **.
Make sure the setting of return to AA is set to Y.

In the EMEA / Australian market it is 88 regardless of the interface. We use NVM all the time and it is always 88 to login, not **. This is from the CallPilot SUOG:

"During the greeting, press **, or if you are in Europe or Australia press 88."

I was merely stating what we use in EMEA. I couldn't vouch for the states.
