What happens, exactly, when you use the Element Manager to get to the system? Is the system up and functioning? If you go to Index of /, (IP of the system) are you challenged for a user and password? If so can you log in? If you can log in at this point, can you get to the user and administration documentation/downloads page? If this is a lost password issue, you will have to call Nortel.

There is a known issue with the BCM200/400 Release 4.0 where a user cannot logon via element manager.

If you are able to access the BCM website using the correct username and password, and still unable to logon via Element manager, you most likely have this issue

The issue is caused by the Linux RPM files becoming currupt, I have had this on 3 BCM400's now. The fix is pretty simple, but you would need to get hold of your vendor to log a call with nortel technical support, who will walk you (or your vendor) through the replacment of the RPM's, based on the patch level of your BCM.

If your getting the "BCM detector cannot determine the device type for {BCM IP ADDRESS}" error you have this problem.
