I am not aware of anyway to apply patches to 4.0 without Element Manager.

There are certian patches that can be installed without having to use Element Manager, these would just be an Exe that is run from a PC.

THe rest need to be installed via Element Manager, any reason you cant use element manager? Have you installed Element Manager on another PC?

If you are getting a "BCM detector cannot determine the device type for {BCM IP ADDRESS}" you most likely have a known BCM400 issue. A call would need to be logged with Nortel via your vendor for a fix to be supplied. Its a pretty easy fix, but Nortel Tech support have to supply the new RPM files based on the systems patch level

yup seems to be a common issue with the BCM400's and is a known issue to Nortel Tech support
