Meridian 824 Ground Start vs Loop Start

Hoping that someone could help. I'm a bit of a newbie so go easy. Thanks for any help.

We've got an old Meridian 824 system (copper only - no fiber) that has been expanded to include a 0x16 Station Module, currently running DR5 software. I'll soon be installing DID cards, so please keep this in mind.

Our local carrier wants us to change from a loop start to a ground start. Most of the documentation that I have mentions loop start, but nothing of ground start. From what I understand, a loop signals the phone company for an outside line by connecting the Tip and Ring and a ground start does the same thing but by grounding out one of the wires. Is there another name for this that may be referenced in the DR5 manual?

I have 1 phone line pulled out of our rollover for experimentation, but I cannot get the 824 to signal for a dial tone.

I was told that I didn't need any additional hardware for the Ground start. Is this true?

What settings do I need to change inside of the system to accomplish this?
Will I have to reinitialize the entire system (startup) to accomplish this?

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

No Ground Start capability on any Norstar platform, that I am aware of.

Check your trunk card / cartridge. LS/DS is a Loop Start Disconnect Supervision card and will not work with groundstart trunks. If you are adding DID's to your system you will also need a DID trunk cartridge (4 ports). I believe that ground start trunks are used on PBX's not Key systems

gogoGophers/PBlaney -

Right now we only have 6 lines going through the KSU. I've checked the model numbers of the KSU cards (NT5B24-DH-93 & NT5B49FA-93). So that sounds like I was given a story by my local provider to sign up for the new services.

Thanks for your help.

I'll post a new thread regarding a few DID installation questions.
