Cool "Denied in admin" but I am the admin

I have just inherited the position of system coordinator for a bunch of Norstar Plus Compact ICS 2.0s, and I have pretty much zero experience. Asking for help from the previous coordinator is not really an option (she's no longer with the company).

I'm trying to change the system answer greeting but whenever I put in FTR-831, FTR-832, or FTR-833 I get the message "Denied in admin". I've been reading the guide but I'm not getting any answers from it.

Can anyone suggest a reason this might be happening, and how I can fix it?

Your feature codes are not standard to what I am used to seeing.
First you need to access the vmail system admin mailbox by:
Dialing - Feature 983
Dial - Mailbox number and password (in the form of 102XXXX, where 102 is the mailbox and matches the same aomunt of digits being used for extension length on the phone system - 1002 if you are using 4 digits. XXXX would be the password).
Press:AA
Press:GRTG
Press:GRTG
Dial the number of the greeting to be changed, i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc.
Re-record your new greeting (I would suggest playing the greeting prior to re-recording to be sure that you are in the correct place).

You are using Feat * 831, 832, or 833 right? You must turn off system answer and CCR before you can change the greeting. This is done via Feat*831 for system answer and Feat*832 for the CCR. You should then be able to enter Feat*833 and select and record the greeting. You must also enter the system coordinator password.

Yes, those are the features I can't access because it tells me "Denied in admin". I'm using the "main" set, the one that's always been used for admin functions, but this time it's not letting me in.

Are you sure these greetings are from the CICS auto attendant and not the voice mail? And are you sure the Auto Att is turned on in the CICS. Are you using a 2 line display set to access this? Can you access programming in the CICS?

I listened to all the recordings of the regular voice mail greetings and it wasn't there. I have to assume that the Auto Attendant is turned on because I can't actually get in there to check. I do have a two-line display. I don't know what CICS stands for. (I'm a newbie.)

What Ramjet is getting at is that this does not make any sense. The only time you should get that message is if you are trying to access programming from a 1 line display phone. If you know the system coordinator password there is no denying by admin. This message does not seem to fit the situation.
CICS stands for Compact ICS (like in your first post). Something is getting lost in translation here. Start again. What Greeting are you refering to in the following ;

There are 2 kinds of Auto Attendant that you might run into with a CICS. 1 is a built in thing with no voicemail, it uses those F*83 codes. There is also a more feature rich separate auto attendant and voicemail that uses F983 for administration. There is no reason to, and I have never heard of, using both, that is why I ask the previous question

Do you have notes from the previous person, or have you done this before?

Describe your steps EXACTLY when you try to use these feature codes and you get the denied in admin thing.

If you were to call my office during working hours and no live person answered, the call would be answered by a recording (of me) telling you which extensions you could enter to get certain people. After that spiel, it starts again, only it's an old one (naming the the old extensions).

I recorded the new one using the greetings table (FTR-983) and set it up OK. But I can't get rid of the old one. (I've listened to all of the greetings from the greeting table and it's not any of them.)

I just type "Feature" "8-3-1" and it beeps and tells me "denied in admin".

When you go do Feat 983 and go to AA then tables, and enter (let's start with table 1) and you step through by pressing next, do you see a CCR tree enabled? Also, which greeting do you see it set for during morning, afternoon, evening, and non-business hours?
