LD with MMail

In using the Remote Software- I have been having problems either staying connected or getting an error (Application Error#81- Please contact your system administrator). In the past I have not had this problem- can you help me as to what I am missing. It sure slows me down when I cannot do remote programming on the ICS/MICS systems! Thanks-

Oooops!

Can you tell us what version of Remote Set Tools or Norstar Manager you are using, and what system version you are getting the error from. Do you get into the system before the error occurs?

NVM Manager and Firewall Access

Remote 9.0 connecting to ICS 5. and ICS 4. systems. The problem does not show any specific consistency. I re-loaded the software 9.0 and re-entered the client dial-up data and it seems to work most of the time now. Could the problem be with the Remote scripts running in the background? Sometimes I get the error prior to connection and then when I am going through the log-on script. Thanks for your input!

Fiber testing product

I don't see error 81 in my listings, but have seen it before. It might be related to error 80 which is the following paste:

-80 Not enough memory or unable to find database engine.
- Working directory is not specified.
- Set the Program Manager - Properties path to the Norstar Manager directory.
- In Windows 95, Set the Icon - Properties Shortcut Start in path to the Norstar Manager directory
- Windows resources low.
- Do not run too many applications.
- Resource leak - Exit and restart Windows. PC reboot may be required.
- PC configuration problems:
- Have at least 8MB of RAM.
- Make sure Windows swap file is at least 20MB.
- Have at least 400+ KB conventional memory under Windows 3.1
- Do not load too many drivers (check CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI).
- Database engine (DBSTARTW.EXE) is missing/corrupted.

I try to keep my pc as inactive as possable while in a remote system, and have the best luck with my older, slower machines running windows 95 or 98. with NRU 9.0
Hope that helps.

Crazy problem

Jessica,
One additional thought. I strongly recommend using an external modem to be able to watch the lights. Call me old fashoned, but by watching the CD you can tell when you have a strong carrier, then watch the RD, SD lights. With a good connection to a RAD, they should continualy flicker because the RAD and your modem continually handshake throughout the session. If they stop or slow down, it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up because there is a good chance that the connection will drop.

Fun stuff, hope I can help.

ACD question

MarvO -

Thanks for the info. Ya know..the better technology gets...the better off we were then
I was giving consideration to an external modem-so I think I will have to procure one! Thanks again for all your help and input!
