music on hold config MIS rls 4.0

A friend of mine is setting up an MICS (Software version 4.0 ) in a trailer for their emergency response team.

He has managed to hook the music up to the right pair and can get background music on the sets. Problem is the music on hold does not work (tone either). This tells me that the music is coming into the system but for some reason it is not being accessed by the hold routine.

Here are some details and what he has set right now:

***************************************
Music is on 17th Pair
Background Music works.
On hold choices are None, Tone, Music. I have selected Music.
Music on Hold Feature is set to Y (Other choice is N)

Even when I select Tone, there is no Tone while on hold. From internal line or calling from Cell phone.
****************************************

any ideas?

papa-bear,

I don't have any great ideas, the MOH on an N* is a very straightforward thing (as you have indicated). First of all, you are on the correct pair. This is born out by the fact that the music source will play over the sets. There is no alternate connection point. There is no multiple sources, like in Meridian ( sorry CS ). You have navigated to the correct programming field(s) and changed it correctly. There is no other option. This is a malfunction. Your friend will have to guage how important this is for them. I would certainly try a simple power down/up. If this doesn't get it, and MOH is REALLY important, you might try a startup (factory default) on the MICS. There is just nothing more to this than the things you have described. P.S. a factory default IS NOT a guaranteed fix for this particular problem, just a catch-all for unsolvable nonsense.
P.S.S. I guess you should try toggle the settings off and on, up and down as a first shot (if you haven't already).

Thanks gogo,

Have tried the I/O thing a few times. He did start from a factory default but there has been alot of playing along the way so something may have gone screwy. I'll mention it and see if anything comes out of it.

Working on it more yesterday late afternoon, they found the music was coming through but so quiet it could barly be heard.

So, it is now known it works, plays as background music at normal levels, on-hold very quietly.

If there happens to be a levels adjustment for the on-hold music, he has not found it yet but will keep looking.

There are no level adjustments on either the MICS or the CICS other than at the source itself.

Must be a fault somewhere.

Oh well, it is not that important, just a nice to have.

Thanks for the thoughts

Any resolution? Remember, the background music (feature 86) level can be controlled per set, where as (mentioned earlier), there is no oin-hold level adjustment on the MICS. Maybe somebody cranked up the volume on a set to where it is audible, although very low. What is your music source and if there you need to make an adjustment there. Have you tried hooking up a test set (butt-set, budinsky, etc) to the 17th pair??

Give us an update, we are always eager to hear the solution.

I also am having trouble with the quality of music on hold. I am thinking it may be the way I am wiring the MOH device to the block. I usually use a headset cord and "bean" the red and white wires to cross connect wire then punch it down on the block. I either wrap the "drain" or cut it off. I am trying some other variations right now and if I come up with a good solution, I will post it. In the meantime, how does anyone else wire MOH up?
