Question Create DN/Phantom DN

Hi all,

Well, i'm a student working on Asterisk, and actually i've some things to do on a Nortel MICS but i've never worked with it before.
What i want to do is to create a phantom DN... but i don't know how to do it. In fact i don't know how to create a DN.
And i must do all of this from a M7310... we don't have the Nortel software...
I've looked for it in all menus and sub-menus but didn't find anything.

So, how could this be done ?

Thanks.

Not sure exactly what your trying to do. There are several workarounds depending on your final goal. I got this from the net. Hope it helps.
How to create virtual DN:
Assign a target line to a hunt group (707) then make the first port of the voicemail the only member of the hunt group. Then create mailbox 707 and assign it to extension 707. The target line rings the group, which rings the voicemail. The voicemail sees the mailbox attached to the group and plays the personal greeting. This isan either or situation. Either the calls automatically forward outside the system or thecall goes straight to the mailbox. If you choose the second scenario and have a NAM voicemail you can do an outbound transfer from the mailbox. The person would record their personal greeting saying, "Hi this is Pietro, leave me a message after the tone or press 7 to be transferred to my cell phone." If you can dedicate an old set hang it in the phone room and assign answer keys of your phantom DNs to this phone. The number of answer keys your system can assign is based on the software release and version. Program the phantoms like real phones. Because the phones now have an appearance in the system they will work steadily. THIS WILL WORK BUT THE INCOMING DIGITS MUST MATCH THE MAILBOX DIGITS, IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU HAVE 4 DIGITS INCOMING YOUR MAILBOX HAS TO BE 4 DIGITS.

Line Programming:
1. Build a Target line, example: 145
2. Enter customer received digits, example: 4598
3. Prime Set: None
Hunt Group Programming:
4. Select a Hunt Group number (1-30)
5. Accept the default Hunt Group Extension that is associated with the Hunt Group number or make a new one.
6. Add a Member DN to be that of the NAM Voicemail DN.
7. Under Line Assignment, assign the Target Line to the
Hunt Group.
8. Shorten the Time Out Queue to be the lowest, 15 seconds (default = 60)
9. Make the Overflow extension to be the NAM Voicemail DN.
Mailbox Programming:
10. ADD a guest mailbox
11. Make the Extension of the mailbox to be the Hunt
Group Extension

Express messaging in Call Pilot 100/150 and BCM 3.0+
Create a mailbox.
In express messaging field enter the target line number not the DID number.
All calls to this target line will terminate in this mailbox

Thank you I'll try this, but it seems to be very difficult just to create a Phantom DN...
And do you know the procedure to simply create a DN, a normal DN ? Maybe it needs a set at the end line, but I havn't any device to play with.

Thank you again.

You make a PHANTOM DN the same way as a normal DN.

I one exsist before just make a copy of this and assign it to a vacant TN

OK lol
So it's not possible to create easily a Phantom DN, but what about a simple DN. Is it possible from a M7310 ?

The DN's already exist you simply plug in a device and give the switch time to recognize it.

OK I see.
But when I want to associate the access number with the DN I cant, the DN I would like to use is not in the list (so it's because there is no set plugged ?).
Can I have two DN pointing on the same access number ?

Thanks.

PS:Maybe you don't understand me but I work on a system configured in french, so I have to translate what I can see, and maybe DN=AN... The access number is the same number as the slot where is plugged the phone.
PS2:Oh, I'm also french ^^

This is what I have done.

Find a Port and DN that does not have a phone plugged into it. You can then either use this DN or first go into Programming and use change DN to change the DN number.

Next add the DN to the phone using Answer DN
That is go into Terminals and Set, Lines, Answer DN, enter the extension, and then select appear or appear and ring.

Then save.

Repeat for each phone. Your DNs will be limited by your package. For example, a 32 port system will only allow you to use 32 port/dn, therefore, if you were to have 20 phones, you would only have 12 unused ports/dns for assignment.

I have use answer DN procedure above for places where two people share one Norstar phone. It seems to work alright for them.

Thanks for your method HCJes, it's easier.

But I still have a problem, my prime extension is the 344 :
I've put the answer NA 342 for my extension 344, and the answer NA 344 for the extension 342... but when I call the 342 it tells me "Hors Service" (Out of Order or Not in Service in english...).
The extension 342 is still attached to the access line 119 whereas I use the 103 for extension 344 and I don't know how to fix it.

Maybe I need to unplug something...
