Talking Norstar ATA runs Meridian Option 1 Sets

Ok, this is strange but true. I have an ATA that is not in use at the moment, I hooked up the power supply, attached a M2008 to the analog device port and the set powered up! I was shocked. The only thing is there is nothing more the search operation (checking for a PBX) being preformed. Tomorrow I will be trying to see if what happens when I try this again with a ATA attached to a KSU that is functioning.

The question that remains right now is: What is nortel's purpose for this feature? Possible integration between systems? Any thoughts are welcome.

Jason.

All you are seeing is the voltage applied to the set via the ATA. If you plug the same set into an analog line straight from the CO, you will see the same thing. Plug a "T" series set in and look at what it does!

I haven't tried a T Series Set but I will do that. As for the advice of connecting the set to a basic T/R from the telco, that is not working in this region of North America. Our Telco's Provide, -48V @ 16-21mA of current. Perhaps your telco provides a service similar to the requirement for the Nortel Sets.

Thanks,

Jason.

Right, but if you connect it to 48vdc anywhere you will get the same effect!
