Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | BCM 50 + analog DID's WARNING LONG POST ! Customer has a MICS 4.0 XC - need to upgrade to 7.0. We purchased 7.0 XC Feature cart and USA-MICS-XC S/W UPG TOOL (upgrade kit). The kit comes with a 4.1 upgrade cart and a 7.0 upgrade cart. The 4 page instruction guide that comes with the kit states (among other things) "Initial upgrade for MICS systems running versions 1.0 to 3.0 (inclusive)" . Insert MICS 4.1 upgrade tool. If OK continue to the next section, which says "Upgrade for MICS/CICS systems running software prior to, and including, 6.0. This applies to the system if it is running MICS versions 4.0 to 6.0 software, INCLUSIVE,....blah blah blah". Insert 7.0 upgrade tool, if OK, power down, install 7.0 feature cart, you are done. (This is a big MICS/with offbrand voicemail, vanilla t1,many 7324's/w CAP,DID's,etc... Programming from scratch is a hassle and a time problem.) I wanted to quote directly from the guide. To boil it down it says if you're on 1.0 to 3.0, use the 4.1 upgrade tool, then the 7.0 upgrade tool, then the 7.0 feature cart. If you're on 4.0 to 6.0, use ONLY the 7.0 upgrade tool, then the 7.0 feature cart. Programming will be saved. THIS IS NOT CORRECT Going from 4.0 and following the instructions did not save the programming. My ITAS case person agreed and admitted that the doc was just plain wrong and expressed regret that he could not change it himself. We did not have enough time, prep work to program from scratch before the next shift needed to use the phones. We had to put the 4.0 cart back in and restore the programming. So now my ITAS person says we need to get a 6.1 upgrade tool and proceed as follows - 4.1 upgrade tool, 6.1 upgrade tool, 7.0 upgrade tool, 7.0 feature cart. Problem: None of our vendors has a "6.1 upgrade tool". It is not an active product at this time. A person from Nortel pre-sales says the 7.0 upgrade tool and the 6.1 upgrade tool have the same part number and that the 6.1 upgrade was "rolled into" the 7.0 upgrade kit. I would like any comments anyone might have on this issue. From what the pre-sales guy said, maybe we just have to use the 4.1 tool, then the 7.0 tool, then the 7.0 feature. Sorry about the long post and thank you.

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | I echo Brewsky on this. I have a site that was originally 1.0. We upgraded to 5.0 and inst PRI. 2 years later, we upgraded to 6.1, then this year to 7.0. From 6.1 to 7.0 was just inserting the 7.0 software. Anythig prior to 6.1, must go to 6.1 first, then you can go to 7.0. __________________ Two snips, a snort, a turn, a fly, and a grunt, and it was so simple, like the jitterbug, it plum evaded me!

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | The general consensus is we need the 6.1 upgrade tool. The 7.0 upgrade "kit" we purchased contains only the 4.1 upgrade cart and the 7.0 upgrade cart. The documentation that comes with the kit confirms that it contains only the 4.1 and the 7.0. The 6.1 upgrade tool is not currently available. ITAS says there's nothing they can do. We must pursue this with our channel person. I post back when this gets resolved. Thanks for the replies...

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Message Light on 2616? See thats the problem.. There is no such thing as a 6.1 upgrade tool. What happens is when you upgrade a switch to 6.1, it does stuff to the data automatically. Then 7.0 does other stuff, but it is looking for the 6.1 stuff.. If you take a 4.x to 7.0 directly, then the stuff 7.0 is looking for won't be there and it will default programming. Look around for 6.1 software, and borrow it while you do this upgrade, then return it.. no harm no foul.. Brewsky

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Brewsky, I want to make sure I am catchin' what you're layin' down "There is no such thing as a 6.1 upgrade tool " Are you saying that the 6.1 upgrade tool NEVER existed ? "Look around for 6.1 software, and borrow it ......." Are you saying that I somehow only need the 6.1 FEATURE cartridge, and somehow I need to insert this during the upgrade process ? Thanks again for your help[/quote]

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Ramjet, thanks. Brewsky, thanks, however, you can call me a dumb **s if you feel the need. I don't understand your last reply. I don't have a 6.1 upgrade tool, and I am on 4.0, not 4.1. Using the carts provided in the 7.0 upgrade kit (4.1 upgrade cart and 7.0 upgrade cart), from 4.0, results in no programming saved. ITAS (and you all) say I need a 6.1 upgrade tool. Nortel and our Nortel vendors say they 'aint got one for me. In light of the fact that we have spent good coin on a 7.0 upgrade kit, which does not work, we are escalating the case. We can't be the only ones on the planet trying to upgrade from 4.0 to 7.0. You guys are great. I'll keep ya posted.
