Location: Canada Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Hi gogoGophers. Pritty soon I have to do almost the same upgrade. I have to get an existing MICS XC Vers.3 with NAM Vers.3 to MICS Vers. 7. I was told the the first thing I have to do is, upgrade the NAM to Vers. 4.1 then the MICS XC from 3 to 6.1. After that all what I have to do just replace the software to version 7 and done. How does this sound? This upgrade will have to be done within around 3 weeks. I hope by the time you will be over with yours, and Could I ask you to share the further headaches of your " journey " re. this upgrade. Thanks Istvan

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Currently Nortel is looking to get me a 6.1 upgrade tool, that being said, after some heavy networking, I talked to a tech who has done several upgrades recently and said 2 things. He HAS a 6.1 upgrade tool and has been unable to succesfully upgrade ANY system from 4.x to any higher version using upgrade tools. Period. He HAS succesfully upgraded using the 4.1 upgrade tool to get from below 4.x to 4.1, then just using feature cards from 4.1 up. No upgrade tools. He did say that as a matter of caution, he used first a 7.0 MICS feature card, then a 7.0 XC feature card, when going from 6.0 to 7.0 XC, but in his opinion, this was just being cautious. This confirms what Brewsky said, so props to Brewsky. I have not tried it yet, and, since we don't have a 6.0 feature card lying around, we may have to drop back 10 yards and punt (aka reprogram from scratch at 7.0). Which brings me to my next question. Is there a way to print out programming info using Norstar Remote Utilities (Remote Set Tool or Browser Tool or any other way for that matter.)?

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | We are overnighting a 6.0 feature card. I will let you know. On the printing out of programming issue, I am currently RTFM'ing, it indicates that you can, but I'm just not gettin' it so far. I'll keep reading.

Location: Canada Rep Power: 6 ![]() | gogoGophers Through the Norstar ICS Remote tools, you open a workbook, and then acquire from your system what ever you want , save it, and then you can edit it if you want, and print it the way you like it. Have fun Istvan

Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | For istvan and anyone else who still cares about this subject: We obtained a 6.0 XC Feature card. I was able, on the first try, to upgrade from 4.0 to 7.0 XC by 1) (System is 4.0 MICS on our test bench). Power down, remove all power and amphenol cables ( instructions say this prevents corruption). Insert 6.0 XC FEATURE CARD. Reattach power and amphenol cables. Power up. Be patient. After much flashing system should come up and NOT say something like Jan 01, 12:06 am. You should have dial tone and no alarms on the alarm set. When I used the upgrade tool, this step always gave me the dreaded Jan 01, even though there were no errors and there was dialtone. 2) Power down, remove all power and amphenol cables. Insert 7.0 FEATURE CARD. Reattach cables. After much flashing, system came up with all programming intact, no errors, correct time and date (close), blah, blah, blah. 3) I was told, by the tech who said he had done several upgrades recently, and comfirmed what Brewsky said (again props) which was "heck with the upgrade tool, use feature cards", which proved to be correct, that (take a breath man.......) if your system is below 4.0, you use the 4.1 UPGRADE TOOL to get to 4.1, then the 6.0 feature card route as described. He did not say using a 4.1 Feature card would not work, just that he HAD used the 4.1 upgrade tool. I have no experience with this and am just passing on info. Ramjet did say he had no problem. I wish you and any other upgrade victim much luck. We have not yet upgraded the actual customer 4.0 yet, but I will probably only post back to this thread if we have a problem.

Location: Canada Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Hello Everyone ! Finally I got to the point that I am over with the upgrade of both the NAM 3 to 4.1 and the USA-MICS vers.3 XC. to vers.7.0 I can’t say to much about the NAM upgrade because it was done by one of my supplier. RE. the Ksu upgrade here is the story: NAM 4.1 was put aside until the completion of the KSU upgrade. First power down the existing MICS VERS.3 XC. ( I left the amphenoled cables connected ) Replaced “1 piece cartridge “ with the newer version with the upgrade tool ( NT7B64CL USA-MICS-XC UPGRADE TOOL ) inserted in it. Then power on and waiting at the phone programmed for alarm messages, for the instruction “ insert MICS software ( or something close to this, I forgot the exact wording ). Then power off again, replace upgrade tool with software version 4.1 and power on again and waiting for the system rebooting. Then repeating the same procedure twice first with the software 6.1 then the 7.0. After then one more power down, connection of the NAM 4.1, power on and that was it. Both the telephone and the voicemail systems kept their original programming. The only glitch I had was, that recycling the power changed / cleared some of the CAP module’s button functions, but that happened me before, so it wasn’t unexpected. Before I started the KSU upgrade I was curious how would the MICS vers.3 KSU handle the NAM vers.4.1 voicemail, so I tried that. They seemed working ok, but I didn’t spent too much time for this test. I just checked the basic functions, like answering calls, opening mailboxes, transferring calls to mailboxes etc.. By the rules they are not compatible with eachother. I hope some question marks are cleared through my story. I wish every one of you a Happy New Year with the least amount of headache. Location: Meechigan Rep Power: 5 ![]() | UPDATE: We JUST "upgraded" the 4.0 to 7.0 over Christmas break. There was apparently some corruption in the MICS and it REFUSED to allow itself to be upgraded by any means short of defaulting and reprogramming 100 + sets. I could go on for hours with endless blathering detail about this that and the other thing and maybe whine for a while about working on my days off, but I'll just say this - sometimes it all works out, and sometimes it don't.
