The system in question is a Nortel Norstar system and here is how my question goes.

Location A: X444 Old location

Location B: New Location and moved x444 to this location but x444 also has a outside phone # to go with it. x-xxx-x444.

OK...at Location B. there is an individual who has a phone already. On this phone they have a personal line + an ext. I was able to move the phone system or so i thought.

When you dial x-xxx-x444 it rings at the phones phone, but enters their personal VMail.

If you ring at x444 it rings at the old phone and enters the Vmail the individual created, with the proper greating.

I don't understand what happend...both voice mail boxes need to be different. the individual needs their personal and i guess you could call the other line a HOTLINE. how could this be done...i called my vender and they said it couldn't be done. But the person who had my position before me was able to achieve this on another phone...

any tips will be helpful...i am no phone guy...just hold ComTIA A+

LDN question

I'm sure the folks here can help, but your problem is not clear to me.

You say you moved x444 to a new location. Did you physically move the jumper wire ? Or did you use DN renumber ? Did you move the phone set itself from where x444 was to where it is now ? What does this "individual who has a phone already" have to do with the problem ? Does the term "Location B (referenced twice in your problem) refer to the same spot ? I think what you are asking is that the outside line be answered by one greeting and the internal extension by another. If this is right, I believe what you want is possible. Try posting back. It would be helpful to know exactly what kind of Norstar system you have and what kind of Voicemail/AA.

I used the DN numbers. I did not move wires or the physical phone. I recycled an existing phone extention, i do not know if that is what is causing my probelm.

The individual is using her original phone. They have (1) personal phone number x-xxx-x333 and a voice mail box to go with it. I am tring to add another phone number x-xxx-x444 and a voice mail box.

x444 was original routed to another location. I have changed that by the options via the phone. When the x-xxx-x444 is dialed, it rings at the individual's phone, but accesses their personal Voice Mail. If the ext. 444 dialed it will access the voice mail box they created for that ext. and phone line.

I'm not sure what is taking place here. why when you dial the phone number it rings at her location, but if you dial the ext. it rings at the old location and enters the created voice mail box.

CO take back and transfer?

If I understand the problem correctly, you will need to physicaly move the phone and the jumpers. VM on a Norstar does not "stay" with the phone if it is just "number" moved. It stays with the orginal port of the number.

Hope this helps. Fredtech2

I am not sure I understand you. So, you are saying that i need to call the vender and get a tech out and switch wires in the teleco closet? Again - I know nothing of phone systems, and i'm really trying to understand. I just don't understand...I am waiting for tech to call me back. I hope it can be taken care of...today.

LOL...again this is just another reason why you don't give a telecommunication job to a computer repiar person...

I want to thank all of you for your help.
