Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Actually, you program DIDs to work on extensions. Think Target Lines.. If you are an end-user, I suggest you get trained like we have to solve this basic question. Or, RTFM (read the frickin' manual) thats available on the BCM. Or even better, call your local BCM vendor and have them do it. If you are a technician, then RTFM... This is a basic issue with Norstar/BCMs.. We are not here to do it for you. We gained our knowledge by attending expensive courses, by reading, or by trial and error. This website is designed to help other technicians solve complex issues and not to walk someone through basic design. Sorry, but nothing is free in this world. Brewsky

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Being the System Administrator here I sort of had this part of the job thrust up on me. I have figured out most things on my own without too much of a hitch. Maybe thats the common jerk off answer around here I don' t know. I was more or less looking for a direction for your 2nd option as you say "trial and error." If you have nothing constructive to add on the note keep your mouth shut. I would have taken silence as a non answer.

Click on this link to get to the BCM Programming Guide and go to the section on target lines. This should provide the information you need to set up your DID's. The basics are you assign the incoming DID digits to the target line and then assign the target line to the phone. Hope this helps.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I agree with Brewsky. For a quick and easier way to get your DID's working properly, call this toll free number: 1-800-call a vendor. Programming DID's to work properly is not something that a non technician without any experience can do with just some comments off a forum. Call your vendor and don't be cheap!

Location: NORTEL - NJ Rep Power: 6 ![]() | So I just wandered over here by accident, since I spend my time in the Nortel PBX forum. I have to say that you guys seem to be a little harsh. Last I checked this is a place where all users can share and ask questions. True, most answers can be found in the manuals, but everyone needs to start out somewhere. I'm not telling you how to act, or what to think. If you feel the way you do, that's fine. Maybe another way of not helping is just to ignore posts from users like this. Some folks are here to offer help to anyone. Just an opinion from someone willing to help anyone get on there way. So now for another way of answering this question: DID's are mapped to Target Line buttons on specific phones, this can be a little complicated at first, so after reading up on Target Lines, maybe you want to contact a vendor to do this for you this time around, but pay close attention to the process so in the future you can do this yourself. Once you understand the simple process and logic behind it, this is something that is easily done. The BCM documentation is available on the Nortel website at http://nortel.com/documentation. You'll need to register first, but will have access to all of the information you should need after you do.

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | MWK, CDP and lamps oh my!! So basically you are wanting this done for free?? Sorry I am late in posting this response, but bills do need to be paid and I do get paid for going out to sites and doing exactly what you are asking. I don't care if you were "thrust" into a position. I did give you guidance, if you didn't see it, re-read the post. Now, once you have read the manual and still have a problem, then explain what problem you are having and we will again lead you into the right direction. But again, we won't do it for you. This is simple stuff. As for me keeping my mouth shut, you can goto hell for that comment. I worked extremely hard to get my knowledge on the product. Do you leap when someone comes up and asks you to make copies of something when you know they can figure it out by reading a little?? My bet would be no.. You kindly let them know where the copier is and what the little green button is for. Hmmm, sounds like about what I said to you.. The documentation is available. Read it. Brewsky

| RE: Whilst I see no need for somebody to seek residence just ashore The Lake Of Fire over an offensive suggestion, I do strongly subscribe to the notion that one need pay his dues in a given field of expertise, if you will. Gray marketeers have sullied our vocation. Norstar and BCM have been prostituted to the point where anybody and his butler figures to know it. And here we all are, seeking mere morsals of technical wisdom. I'll cut our friend a modicum of slack and assume that he simply needs to be pointed in the correct direction. That has been done re the target lines tip - and the suggestion of calling a trained and certified vendor for support. Choose one or the other. We all have lines to program, mouths to feed and futures to ensure...... | ||||||||

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Thankyou to everyone for the kind suggestions and I apologize to those who mis-interpreted my intentions. As I stated clearly in my second post I was looking for a point in the right direction. I have no problem with reading the documentation and have had a great track record for figuring things out on my own. I will be getting walked through it by our vendor, and was just hoping to read up on it before that call so I had some prior knowledge and the support call would go much smoother. Being in a support roll myself, I know how frustrating it can be trying to help someone accomplish something when they have no idea. I just like to be prepared. I was trained by the vendor for the system administration and the tech was kind enough to go above and beyond to show me things. Apparently he is not to threatened as one feels on this forum. Anyway I just wanted to do my duty in being prepared for him when he calls. Although I've received the block of DIDs from the provider, they won't be active until after November 8. So until then and when the tech calls, I'm just doing my homework. Again thanks to all those with the kind suggestions and advice.
