Location: Richmond, Va. Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Is their a correct procedure to upgrade a MICS from 4.1 software with a ver 1 NVRAM to 6.1 software with a ver 2 NVRAM? The manual tells you to upgrade the NVRAM from ver 1 to ver 2 but not how. I recently tried this by doing a backup of the 4.1, changing the NVRAM module only and then restoring the programming. Then I changed the 4.1 PCMCIA card with the 6.1 card. The software was upgraded fine but the PRI enabler was gone and the system ID was changed so I couldn't use the original PRI keycode. I think the system ID was changed on the first step when I changed the NVRAM module. I went back to the original NVRAM module and the 4.1 software but the system ID was still changed. I had to buy a new PRI enabler to get the customer back in service. Unfortunely I still have to do the upgrade without loosing the PRI. Can someone help me? Thanks!!

Upgraded from a 5.0 w/vers.1 NVRam to 6.1 w/ver.2 NVRam and the end result was the same as you have seen happen. The changing of the NVRam changed the SysID. There is no going back. I forced my Nortel provider to replace the PRI Enabler at no cost. There should be a warning somewhere, but there is not. I do believe that you may be stuck reprogramming your newly upgraded switch manually.

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | ITAS will regenerate the keycode for you at no cost. However, ITAS is reserved for partner based companies only, unless you have some agreement with them. You did the right thing by having your provider get the code for you. But remember, if you do something to the system they installed, they could say you screwed it up and bill you. Be careful, I know all about it as I am one of the providers we all speak about. Brewsky
