We replaced a 2.5 HD with a 2.5 FP1 Maint. Rel. 1.1 HD after it failed. About a 3 weeks later I came on site to do a backup because no one was for sure if a backup was done post HD replacement. After building my path and attempting to do a backup I recieve the following error.
The BCM is not in a restoreable hardware profile! I then went telnet and got this menu.
*================================================= ============================*
Nortel Networks Business Communications Manager
*================================================= ============================*
CA810e Default
MSC
Slot1 Slot2 Slot3 Slot4 Image
*==========================================*
1.-BCM-WVMN-CONFIG [ WAN : V.90 : MSC : NIC ] ETQ
** 2.-BCM-NVMN-CONFIG [ NIC : V.90 : MSC : NIC ] ETQ
3.-BCM-INMN-CONFIG [ IWAN : NIC : MSC : NIC ] E1
4.-BCM-N_MN-CONFIG [ NIC : : MSC : NIC ] E1
* 5.-Base Platform [ n/a : n/a : MSC : NIC ] n/a

6.- Select an alternate MSC image to load.
M.- Return to Main Menu

BCM Rls ID 2.5 Feature Pack 1 Maintenance Release 1.1
Version 5
Hardware Profile 5 CA810e CoreUpload
Notes:
* Indicates the hardware profile assigned to this system.
** Indicates the hardware profile detected on this system.

Make a selection:[1,2,3,4,5,6,M]?

Now my questions:
1. If I select item 6 will it load the hardware profile detected?
2. If this is the case, will it clean my clock and will I have to reprogram the entire customer database?
3. Am I on the correct path or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any input from you BCM guys out there would be a big help. Thanks

Looks like the HD hasn't been initialized or the MSC hasn't recieved its core software load. You have to load the corresponding HW profile to the BCM, i.e. if you have a NIC, then the Media Services Card, then another NIC (e.g. 2LAN config), you'd have to select the 4th option.

It's the first step you need to do when obtaining a new BCM or a new HD: tell the HD and the MSC what kind of setup you got going on. For example, in my case, I have a BCM with a WAN, a V.90 modem, the Media Services Card ans a NIC... I'd have to select profile 1 or else my cards would be screwed.

I would select item number 4 as this is what the system found

Are you getting a status light on the LEDs?

I have done a startup on a BCM (just like you would on a Norstar) and everything came up fine. It seems sometimes the MSC Card needs a good swift kick in the butt to get going... After that I didn't have to choose a hardware profile.. This also was on a 2.5 box which I am going to put in a new HDD with 3.6 software...
