A good analogy

Hi,

I am going to preface this question by saying that I am somewhat of a newbie to Asterisk. I have SIP Phones (Cisco 7960's, as well as Xten softphones attached to my Asterisk box and am having problems with the message waiting indicator from Asterisk. To make a long story short, the Asterisk box does not even seem to be attempting to send an MWI to the phone when someone leaves a voicemail. It does an excellent job of e-mailing me the voicemail, but that is as far as I seem to be able to get.

A few questions: I have the extensions defined as 800 through 814, the mailboxes are set up as 100 through 114 respectively. Should the mailboxes have the same extension numbers as the phones or can that even be done? Any other ideas as to why no MWI is sent to the phone when a message is left. The mailbox number is definitely defined in the SIP.conf file?

Thanks,

bigbadbillyc

MWI is controlled by the "mailbox=???" line in each extension's setup [context] in sip.conf. Just set up each extension for the mailbox you want it to monitor, such as

[804]
.
.
.
mailbox=104
.
.
.

Good luck.

Why would you make the mailbox number different from the extension anyway? Just wondering.
