Trixbox - Asterix - Multiple incoming line question

Hello,

We are a university and have recently setup a trixbox V. 2.2.10 with a rhino zaptel card (4xfxs channels, 4xfxo channels).

We have three analog incoming lines into the rhino card. These lines we will call 1014, 1015, and 1016. Currently our main line is 1014 which about 80% of our inbound calls are on.

Our zapata.conf is setup to have one group for all four channels:

group=0
language=en
context=from-zaptel
signalling=fxs_ks
channel=>1-4

Our incoming route is set to push all calls on all channels to our main IVR.

The problem that we have is that we can only have one call per line. For example, when someone calls in on a line which already has a call, the second call gets automatically sent to voicemail rather than to one of the other lines which are free.

What we are trying to achieve is a system that will allow incoming calls on 1014 to be forwarded to 1015/1016 if 1014 is has an active call.

Any help and or advice in the right direction would be very helpful and appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Mike

No problem! You need to contact your service provider and have them turn on "Forward on Busy" for the lines.

By automatically sent to voice-mail, I'm assuming you mean voice-mail provided by your service provider. That is the normal setup.

So, have them Forward on busy like this:

1014 -> 1015
1015 -> 1016
1016 -> Voice-mail

This way, if 1014 is busy, it will forward to 1015, and if that line is busy, it will forward to 1016.

The nice part about this setup is if you get to the point you are using all three lines and don't want callers to go to external voice-mail, you can opt for a "backup" using VoIP if you have high speed internet access for your Asterisk machine. We get 4 additional inbound lines for only $11/mo for this reason. You then just have your service provider forward 1016 to the VoIP number and don't program the system to dial out over the VoIP lines. That way, there are not surprises on that phone bill and you can then have 7 incoming calls at one time.

Mucho Gracias!!

That was very helpful information. Actually I didn't even think about approaching the solution from the services providers point.

We use XO communications for our bundled T1/5 VOIP lines. They charge us roughly $450/month. Is there better service out there that is cheaper?

Again, thanks for your quick reply and useful information.

-Mike

Sorry for the delay, you now have me confused. If you have a T1, why are we talking about analog lines? What is providing the analog lines?

As for your pricing, it sounds pretty good. T1s in my area range from around $400/month and go up from there depending on additional services and how you cut it up.

Hey while doing a search on google I ran into this promotion, I dont' know anything about the company or their service (so don't take my word for it) but they say their T1's start at $250.00 you could check them out.
Best of luck!
