Unhappy Asterisk Dial tone

I just want to know how I can get a dial tone from the Landline when I press the 9 to get access to the outside line and make a call.
when I press the 9 I just get a dead sound and I dial any number and the call get thru but I don't get a dial tone before dialing the number. Also how I can record my IVR or download some examples.

Why would you need a dialtone after pressing 9? It's kinda like asking for a dialtone after dialing the area code.. why would you want/need it?

Well, good luck with that, and if you figure out how to do it (If it's even possible) post back and let us know what you did.

Dialing 9 is just your outbound trunk selector (and not even needed) and you are not actually "put" on the outbound line. It isn't untill you complete dialing your number that it compares that number with the dialing rules and then "puts" you on the proper trunk.

jzwacki is right. Old telephone men are used to 9 selecting a piece of hardware that is connected to a trunk. All newer systems analyze the digit string, and then select the route. Most systems play dialtone after the trunk access digit (9), but it is system dialtone, not outside dialtone like the old days. Asterisk's outside dialing can be programmed without an access digit but it will really cut down your dial plan for other things like extensions. I suggest keeping the 9 as a leading digit on all outside calls. This will leave 1-8, and 0 available for extensions.

Let us know,

If you are setting up trixbox in a corporate environment that I would see the value of this. People are use to pressing 9 and getting a second dial tone to dial out.

If we want to migrate users to a new system like Trixbox you do not want to have shock factor like that.

Its hard enough getting them to like a new system and now having to explain that they still need to press 9 they just won't hear a second dial tone.

Users don't like that. I mean look at VOIP in general, We had to add "White Noise" just to make users happy to use the service. They didn't like the silence of VOIP, they wanted to hear noise to let them know the call was still connected....
it's less efficient but ultimately the user controls what they want out of our service so asking for a way to add a dial tone to 9 is not a unreasonable request. imho

Good Luck Jorge!

Just come across this whilst searching for something on dialtone.

To do what is required here, use 'ignorepat' in the context, like the following.

Code:
[outbound-testContext]
ignorepat => 9
exten => 9XXXXXXXXXXX,1,Dial(...where to go...)
The ignorepat will match 9 in the dialling pattern but will continue to give dialtone, until other digits are dialled.
