Trixbox Install

Just wanted to post up a review and guide on Trixbox, Man what an easy set up. Within about 20 minutes I had a working PBX with Voicemail and AutoAttendant. It even comes with an ACD system!

Just Download the ISO burn it to a disc. Then boot your old PC with the Disc. Takes about 20Minutes with a fast PC.

Configure users has been a snap, I have 2 Xlight softphones, with Presence, Video conferencing and ton's of features installed on 2 laptops. Both laptops connect back to the Asterisk Server.

I can make calls back and forth fine. I can check voicemail fine.

I am starting to config the trunks which for me is a standard analog line to Vonage (unlimited local and long distance).
So far I can't make a call out yet, i am not sure if my digium hardware is recognized or if I don't have the settings correct in the trunk set up.

Will follow up soon after I get a chance to play with the config again.

I've found that on newer iso's (Both Asterisk@home and Trixbox) that you may need to run genzapconfig and then reboot for it to recognize the trunk cards.

I look forward to hearing your additional information. Being that I have become customed to the prior AMP interface, I personally don't like Trixbox. Maybe I will take the time to put together a trixbox machine to test with GXP-2000 phones, an IAX2<->IAX2 trunk, and a few trunk cards.

ps: just so you know, hooking a PBX up to your Vonage is a violation of the EULA.. don't worry.. I won't tell..

Hey Jzawacki,

I finally got it working with my home line.

It was a combination of issues, The first PC I installed it on did not recognize the X100P card. I tried a different PC and found out also I had a bad splitter so I got battery just not dial tone. oops...

After getting that squared away and many tuturials later, I got it working.

Its pretty neat, the interface is really slick,
here is a screenshot, its pretty intutive.
Build extension, i am using XLight phone, very sweet by the way a lot of great features and I had no problem connecting that to asterisk, it was only the Zaptel issues that kept me from getting my system up in under 10 minutes.

Your right the latest version of trixbox is missing the zaptel files, you have to download them and rebuild everything with them in there.

Actually installing and getting trixbox up and working is quite painless, but apparently there is a lot of issues with Zaptel so using a cheap ebay style fxo adapter may cause you some frustation.

I hear it is really easy to set up a sip line and just use Trixbox to connect via that way instead of a home analog line.

Anyways, I am just playing with all the features now.. Setting up Time of Day schedules, a IVR system,Ring Groups, they even have an ACD module.

So far so good and updates are easy along with new modules installation..

Two Thumbs up for now (excluding the zaptel issue)

Well, the problem is.. even the expensive Digium cards (that we use) need the zaptel stuff.. It's like the developers only care about VoIP solutions. I'll let you know what I get working, as we are going to be trying TrixBox on our new dev system, but if the features we need (incoming/outgoing limits, outbound rollover, etc) don't work we plan to take a look at the alternatives like SipX.

Well, we have it working so far.. Funny.. The main reason it wouldn't find the Digium card is because it was starting with the SMP kernel (it is a dual processor machine). Luckily, we told it to run the non SMP kernel and it found the Digium card right away. I setup the trunks and outbound routing and after a few hours of troubleshooting, it's working for the most part. I haven't setup the VoicePulse stuff yet, but did load the module. I also noticed that the incoming and outgoinglimits didn't seem to work on my GXP-2000, but because it has a config manager, there might be other ways around it.. haven't payed with it much yet. We are just happy it is rolling over properly on the outbound trunks. I'll post more info when I have it.

I personally don't care for the interface, and all the refreshing it does.. but I'll get over it.. As long as we can get everything working, we'll be happy.
