To Check your software licenses go to:

Modification Typical
-> System
-> Software Keys (Tab)
-> Details
-> Call Facilities

If Voice Mail remote Customisation is 'Disabled', then you will have a problem using Virtual extensions for what we are trying to achieve.

If this is the case, do you have a spare analogue port you can use to achieve the same thing?

No License

There you have it. Voice Mail Remote Customization is indeed n.a.

I actually have 6 spare analogue ports, yet when I go into the Subscriber details, I am not able to set the "Mailbox" for them (greyed out). Additionally, I clicked on the "Virt. Keys" of one of them, and nothing was checked.

How do I go about setting up the mailbox by using an Analogue port then?

(many many thanks)

I suspect you selected the first analogue port. This is set up for FAX only in default and therefore 'Mailbox is not available. You can:
1. Try another analogue port
2. Change services 1 (in services) of this port to 'telephone'.

Alright! Got it! (Well almost)

Now.. I see my problem lies in the creation of the VMU key.

I have tried to make a key as:

Keytype: Feauture Key
Keyfunction: Voice Mail Unit

Dialing: 250

And no success. I HAVE now successfully sent (from my terminal) two messages to the 250 mailbox, and I can even see that the messages ARE there (in the statistics).

But how do I access them?

((I really can't thank you enough for all of this help!!))

--- One more note, when I do make that key, it does actually get me to a mailbox, but it is my own, and not that of 250 ---

Are you creating a VMU key on the phone you wish to access the msgs on 250?

Or to access messages dail 500 and follow the prompts.

Yes I was, well.. temporarily anyways, I want to see it working on my terminal first before setting it up on the users'.

I tried the 500, as you said, and I am getting an "Unknown Mailbox Number" message.

I was concerned this was because there was no name/message assocaited, so through PM5, I copied my own name and greeting over to 250 (and that worked without a hitch).

I'm wondering if I am missing something in the "Feautures" of this 250 subscriber, or maybe some other setting?

Ok.. according to the 1000-page Tech document, the following is almost certainly what is causing the problem:

INITIALIZING MAILBOXES
Description
Mailboxes are initialized by their owners when they entering their individual passwords and register
their names.

As I did not do this through a terminal itself (I did it via transferring the name sound files through PM5) I suspect that the mailbox has not been properly intialised.

What I don't understand is how I can initialise this person's mailbox if this is an analogue port that is just being "maniuplated" into being used for this purpose?

Or maybe I have done something else wrong? ((Am so close now.. this is killing me!!))

Key Programming

OK... I plugged an analogue phone into the port, it told me that the mailbox wasn't initialised. I then pressed 67 (within our numbering plan, this is for "Mailing") set the name and password, and now the voice mail unit is accessible through 500!

The ONLY thing missing now is so that I can program a subscriber (such as myself) to see a flashing light when messages for THIS subscriber have arrived, and pushing it would take me to this mail box password prompt immediately.

Any chance you can tell me how to program such a key?

That is what the vmu key is for.
So add a (VMU) feature key to the phone which is to monitor this mailbox and set it to 250 so that it can monitor wether that mailbox has a message.

I have indeed tried this "VMU Feauture Key" with the "Dialing" entry as 250, but it does not work. When I push the feature key, it goes to the phone subscribers voice mail (ignoring the 250 alltogether).

Another forum has told me that this is because I'm on 1.1 and that this feature won't work until version 3!

I don't suppose there are any workarounds for this (e.g. I tried a dialing key that was 500#250, but no such luck).
