If they have implemented Wireless phones but have not encrypted the traffic then the client either didn't care or the Contractor didn't know how. WiFi traffic and authentication should all be encrypted from AP to handset at the very least.
And the irony is that most of the professional vendor-supported WiFi phones available now (at least last time I've read on this subject some weeks ago) don't support the advanced WiFi encryption standards or even any encryption at all at Layer 2 (like .11i/WPA2) , because they say the delay caused by re-negotiation of encryption when roaming between access-points is breaking the voice session.
