| Chicago to publicly embarrass "PIRATES-GHOST" Big News Network Tuesday 21st June, 2005 (UPI) City officials in Chicago are hoping a new Web site featuring names and mug shots of men arrested for soliciting prostitution will discourage the crime. Mayor Richard Daley and top police brass unveiled the Internet site Tuesday following a police recruit graduation ceremony. Photographs of 21 people, including four suburbanites, charged with patronizing or soliciting the services of a prostitute over the past month were the first posted on the public site. Police arrested 3,204 prostitutes, 950 johns and impounded 862 vehicles last year, the Chicago Tribune said. People convicted of soliciting prostitution currently face up to $1,000 fines and impoundment of their vehicles. We're telling everyone that if you solicit a prostitute in the City of Chicago you will be arrested and people will know, said Daley. He said the Web site started from the premise that prostitution is not a victimless crime, and I agree wholeheartedly. |
