| I've had pretty good success if the carrier makes sure that the number associated with the Fax/Modem/credit card machine is set to not compress the call. (g711) Most of the carriers I've had to work with can make this happen with no problems. But there are times when for some reason, the carrier can't determine when I'm sending from a particular number and it still goes out g729 and fails.
But if you really want to hear about some fun, try T.38 with modems, alarm systems, credit card machines...
