| accessing to a TD 1232 through RS232 Hello I am network admin for a jewelry company in France, Paris. We have a TD1232 with a TVP 50 and 16 proprietary phones + 4 analog phones/fax. This system was installed in 2004 and we only use a fraction of its capabilities. I wish to modify a few settings on this unit and I made a cable following the pin assignment I found on the installation manual. I use the admin tool downloaded from pbxsoftware.com My trouble is that I can't connect to the PBX at all I rechecked the cable pin assignment many times (DB 9 female to DB 25 male) and tested each pin with an Ohm-meter. The cable is about 50 feet long , it is a shielded cat 5E. My PC is a Win2000 unit. I tried Winterminal but I just get 1 or 2 ASCII characters (sometimes none with other port setting ) and nothing more. I generally use 9600 - 1 - 8 - Parity None - no flow control. I randomly tried other settings (parity and bits) but without success. As you see, I am a newbie in PBX programmation. I have the following hypothesis regarding my issues 1) RS 232 settings not correct. How can I ascertain the 1232's port parameters? 2) Cable too long. the Installation manual mentions 2 meter maximum for the log printer cable. A thread in this forum recalls however that RS232 protocol allows for much longer cable, depending on baud rate. If I want to go shorter, I will need a USB to serial adapter as my laptop has no serial port. 3) there may be a switch, a setting on the PBX that "activates" the RS 232 4) there may be another access point to this PBX. I can't believe there is no USB or RJ45 port on this dammed unit. it was bought new 5) it would be a specific version/revision of a TD 1232 that would need other settings/protocols... Any hint will be really appreciated. this unit is still acting like a black box to me Thank you |
