Ok...I"m not NORMALLY this anal about stuff (ok, maybe I am) ANYWAY...
in the Chicagoland area Cingular has been running a radio spot that talks about a new deal they're having....
I'm looking to find out who created this commercial to let them know that they've COMPLETLY screwed it up...
In the start of the spot (if you've not heard it) it talks about "Things you may not know about Chicago"...one of which they mention "The Zoot Suit was invented here.."
My issue (and my win on Trivial Pursuit) IT BLOODY WELL WAS'NT INVENTED IN CHICAGO!!!!!
POPULAR, most asuredly..but (rumor has it) it was simaltaniously invented in LONDON and ATLANTA sometime in the 30's....mind, no ones REALLY sure (at least none of the info I've found thus far) who invented it first, but it certainly wasn't invented in Chicago.
I've nothing against this city....just against a company (like Cingular) that would produce a radio spot making a claim without checking the facts.
To me, saying the Zoot Suit was invented here is like saying the Cubs are winning the 2003 World Series...(and we know that's not happening)
Ok...done venting....NOW...I just have to work on Steve Shadley (local NPR presenter) and teach him how to prounce the names: Kankakee (CANK-ah-kee, not can-KAKI) and Carnege (CAR-nah-gee not car-NAY-gee)
Bugs the HELL outta me!
:P
