Extraordinarily intelligent, resourceful, and articulate engineer sought to maintain, improve, and extend a complex, integrated voice and data environment for the D. E. Shaw group, a highly successful investment and technology development firm. The Junior Voice Communications Engineer will oversee voice/data/fiber cabling installation and maintenance, in addition to troubleshooting and resolving communication issues.

The ideal candidate would have an undergraduate CS or engineering degree, a strong understanding of telecommunications and computer systems, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a high aptitude and enthusiasm for both administrative and hands-on engineering work.

We are particularly interested in applicants with exposure to leased circuits, Nortel Meridian PBX, voice recording, and experience installing, testing, and maintaining premise wiring (cat. 5 and 6). Previous programming, systems administration, or help desk experience is a plus, as is experience with complex trading environments, Cisco routers, VoIP, or VPN. However, we are prepared to provide training for an engineer who has excellent raw ability and a serious commitment to the position.

We are seeking an exceptionally well-qualified candidate, and are prepared to offer an extremely attractive compensation package. Please send your resume and cover letter (with GPA and SAT, GRE and/or other test scores) to H.K. Jurgen at career@world.deshaw.com.
