With the Partner Mail, or any AT&T/Lucent/Avaya voicemail system, simply popping in a new hard drive won't work unless it is a drive that is specifically marketed as a direct replacement for the voicemail system.

I'm not very familiar with the old Partner Mail system. Given that the Partner Mail has been off the market for many years and that Avaya no longer supports it, my thought would be to check and see if your system is compatible with current Avaya voicemail products and, if so, upgrade.
