| Usually when I've seen this happen someone is trying to re-record the main greeting and does not save the changes or hangs up on the VM. This will usually wipe out the main message.
If it was something else please share your solution so others can look it up here.
Also make sure when posting again to let us know you have a Linux based VM, the setup on this VM is quite different from the standard windows or DOS based VM's NEC makes.
