Unhappy Unplugged Newbie!

Hi all.

I've been tasked by my husbands business partner to investigate and provide him with telephony options (pbx, key system). He believes their panasonic PBX is outdated, could very well be, and he wants me to "go out there" and search out. Their company is mid-size approx. 50 - 60 employees of which only 40% require individual lines since the remaining are in a factory.

I have been asked because I used to consult to government departments and large-scale corporations in telecommunications (primarily voice). That was 12 years ago, and after breifly surfing the web, things have drastically changed since then. VOIP for instance, was only in disucssed amongst the mainstream.

If anyone can guide me or advise me on where I should begin to kickstart this task, please feel free to do so. Im feeling a tad overwhelmed even though it's my husbands company, I would really like to help them out and get their phone system right.

Thanx to you all in advance!
