If I am not mistaken, Cisco is the one that brought H323 to the forefront. Other VOIP system manufacturers have invested in SIP. I've been testing a few products with SIP and I have to say its a lot easier to configure end devices. I've seen the Nortel use H323 and I can tell you it was pretty confusing. I think Cisco and Nortel do that for a reason... They dont want just everyone able to configure these without their certifications..
